In 2022, the research team led by Dr. César Galo Garcia Fontecha joined the Sant Joan de Déu Research Institute as the “Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology” Group. We take a look at his scientific career up to the time he joined SJD Barcelona Children’s Hospital and the objectives of his new group.-

Dr Montse Gil, a member of the research group Assessment of Health Technologies in Primary Care and Mental Health (PRISMA), has just presented her doctoral thesis, "The Problem of Non-Initiation of Drug Treatment: Assessment with Qualitative Methods", where she analyses why patients decide not to initiate a new pharmacological treatment.

It can be rightly said that the driving force behind the research carried out by the Neonatology Department at the Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona Children's Hospital was Dr Xavier Krauel, who laid the first stone of what is now the Neonatology Research Group at the Sant Joan de Déu Research Institute (IRSJD), led by Dr Martín Iriondo, the current head of the department.

The discovery of GDF15 overexpression in patients with mitochondrial disease opened a door towards an improvement in their diagnosis
Dr. Ceciclia Jiménez-Mallebrera leads a translational research team focused on childhood neuromuscular diseases. Her laboratory works with the Neuromuscular Unit, Neuropaediatrics Service, at the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu (HSJD). They work together to improve the diagnosis and treatment of these diseases, with the goal of improving the quality of life of the affected children.
