ORACIA · hOme-based Rehabilitation using an Artificial Companion for aphasIA
The Parc Sanitari Sant Joan de Déu participates in the ORACIA project. This project will develop an innovative product to facilitate rehabilitation exercises for people with aphasia. Aphasia is an acquired language disorder that affects the individual's understanding and expression in different modes of communication (listening, reading, speaking, writing, gesture and calculation). It is common in adult patients and affects between 30 and 40% of people who have had a stroke.
The ORACIA project will create a new program, developed and controlled by therapists, associated with a digital application, providing a new support solution for home rehabilitation. Through a platform based on ICT (Information and Communication Technologies), ORACIA approaches rehabilitation from a holistic perspective (speech and language therapy, physical therapy and cognitive training) with an intensive therapeutic approach, with high repetition, oriented to specific tasks.
ORACIA will promote the extension of the rehabilitation intervention carried out in the clinic in the community environment (e.g., in the patient's home or home care centre), reducing the costs associated with the health care of aphasic patients.
